OPEN SOURCES – ONLINE VOLUNTEER WITH VIDEO CHAT TO HELP YOUR CAUSE AT A PLACE YOU CHOOSE
--focus on anywhere in the world that has internet access or by a particular cause you feel driven to and choose the place --you find your own community/nonprofit leader with internet search for "country name" + "nonprofit" + "name of cause"
--don't worry about how busy you are, everyone is busy; this is two short meetings a week for as long as you want to do it
--everything is free, no money involved at all for anyone, you are NOT here to donate to us or to anyone anywhere
--it's a LOCALLY run nonprofit/group leader abroad you're finding and it's nice if they have a webcam but not necessary
YOU AS AN ONLINE VOLUNTEER CAN CHOOSE TO:
a) Help write a grant: many local leaders and community nonprofits need help in proposal grant-writing and when you finish it together, they can learn how to write basic grants from your teaching of it along the way. We have a great example and guideline built for your use. Of course, if you choose this you should have basic writing and communicating skills.
b) Do some online education: in whatever subject you feel comfortable teaching, just do a Google search for an indigenous nonprofit leader of a developing country and start meeting with them online a couple days a week; we’ve had volunteer doctors teach medicine, farmers and botanists teach about agriculture and college kids teach English as Second Language.
c) Policy making: make local change for one key issue by working with a local community group in the area trying to fix or address this problem; help them organize a local campaign against those behind corruption or inefficient policies. Great for those in school who did/doing business, sociology, economics, political science, journalism or international relations.
